Why is the Foundation needed?
The Foundation will support, enhance and protect the long-term quality of education for our children. Supporting the Foundation helps the entire community. As our students benefit from these resources, so do we!

How is the Foundation structured?
The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization as approved by the IRS. Its purpose is to provide a long-term, self-sustaining financial base that will annually fund innovative academic programs. All work is accomplished by volunteers who serve without salary as the board of directors. Annually the board elects officers and directors, reviews policies and practices, evaluates the funded projects, and conducts a financial audit.

What is the role of a director?
The directors are responsible for raising funds, determining guidelines for project funding, researching and selecting projects / services, and dispensing funds. They are also responsible for developing equitable policy and disciplined financial and planning procedures, which are audited by an external professional on an annual basis.

What is the relationship between the Foundation and the school district?
The Foundation is a group of private citizens, and is not part of the school district. The District 13 Board of Education encouraged the formation of the Foundation and strongly support its efforts: a partnership for innovation in public education. Excellent communication and cooperation with the school district is essential for the success of the Foundation.

What types of programs are funded?
The objective of the Foundation is to fund new and innovative programs that enhance the educational experience. The Foundation will not fund regular instructional programs or extracurricular activities. The funds will be used to enhance and enrich the regular instructional program.

What is the process for awarding grants?
Each year, school staff members, administrators, parents and community members are invited to submit proposals for special programs or projects that benefit the students and staff of District 13. Any individual or group may submit a written grant application that describes the project, the method of implementation, a cost estimate, and the value of the program to students.

Who determines how the funds will be spent?
Members of the Board of Directors serve as a review committee. Based upon selection criteria established by the board, the committee reviews, selects, and prioritizes the recommended grants. The full board will determine the available funds and then approve the final selections based upon the recommendations of the committee.

How can I make a contribution?
Make a gift of cash, check, securities or personal property in any amount. You may choose to pledge a certain dollar amount selecting either monthly or annual payments. Gifts may be made as a tribute to a friend or as a memorial to a loved one.
